Department Heads

I have heard all the imaginative theories of who is the next department head or chief and I have to say that some of you are very creative. Just to try to put all those rumors to rest, I want to share some thoughts about this. I don’t plan on filling those roles with friends or family and if someone says (insert name here) is the next chief feel free to laugh. Why? Because I don’t know yet. My plan is to accept resumes for all department heads just after the election. This doesn’t mean that any of the existing department heads don’t have a chance, but it does mean that they will interview just like everyone else.

I plan on interviewing 3-5 candidates from those resumes for each position. During those interviews, I plan on using the connections that I have made over my time on city council to ensure that we have an expert in the area of that set of interviews. I firmly believe that Ronald Reagan was correct when he said: “Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don't interfere as long as the policy you've decided upon is being carried out.” Because of this belief, I want to make sure I have explored every option possible to find the best people for each one of these roles. I look forward to the chance to meet someone that I may not have thought about before and see how their vision for the future of Seymour overlaps and expands my own.
